About The Rally

What is the White Hat Rally?
An organised motor rally that won’t cost the earth or 3 weeks holiday, and gives you a trip to remember, driving on some of Europe's finest roads (!) and taking in the scenery. The only snag is that your car has to cost around a measly £500….The rally is organised by White Hat Events, a not-for-profit organisation that is made up of professionals from the information security industry who are dedictaed to giving something back to the community.

How long does it take?
3 days for the rally itself and approximately 5 in total, allowing  for a days travel to the start, and another day to dispose of your car and fly home. We believe 3 days charging about the French, Swiss and Italian countryside in a rubbish car on the rally itself, is just about right.

When does it take place?
The rally will start at 8.30 a.m. on the Friday morning  and end on Sunday evening.

Will you help us if we break down?
You are joking surely? Trust us, you really would not appreciate it if we deprived you of the uncertainty each day brings on whether your chosen chariot will make it to the next checkpoint, let alone start in the morning.  Breaking down miles from anywhere, on a mountain pass in a strange country is worth the entry fee alone as several teams will testify!

How much does it cost to take part?
Entering the rally will cost a base fee of £250 (with any remaining fee after costs going to ChildLine*) per car, which includes a White Hat Rally car sticker set.  You can have as many people in the team as you wish but remember, the fewer in a team the easier it will be to get a lift with another team if the worst happens.  In addition we'd like you to raise at least £1,000 for ChildLine, however this is not a condition of taking part.

How do I arrange my sponsorship?
Raising money for ChildLine  could not be easier.  You will be driving one big bill board so try and get some sponsorship on your chariot.  Also, there are tools and facilities online that can help you raise money.  We recommend using http://www.charitygiving.co.uk/ to facilitate your donations.

How do I find somewhere to stay?
Here you have two options.  Option 1 is to use the list of hotels provided by us and the wonderful results from Google to identify your hostel of choice in the locations quoted in the rally.  We will indicate which are the establishments of choice so that we can try and stick together.  Option 2 takes consideration of the fact that you are driving a hotel room on wheels so if budgets are tight, “Kip in the Car”.

If I find I cannot rally after all?
Unfortunately refunds can only be made if you inform us within fourteen days of paying your entry fee.  We are however happy to accept changes to team members up to a week before the event, so you can transfer your entry to other willing participants.

* Please note that the White Hat Rally is independently organised by the Organising Committee of the White Hat Rally and is not covered by the NSPCC's insurance programme. The NSPCC and ChildLine shall not be liable for any loss or injury arising out of the event or its organisation.
